On Tuesday 13 February, 2023, the third day of the plenary meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) holding at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in Abuja, programme for the day started with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Holy Hour Adoration and Benediction. Most Rev. Martin Olorunmolu of Lokoja Diocese was the Chief Celebrant at the Holy Mass as well as the homilist.
The morning session, moderated by Most Rev. Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe of Makurdi Diocese, commenced with a lecture on financial matters given by Professor Franklin Nnaemeka Ngwu of the Lagos Business School. In the interactive and insightful presentation, the Prof. made some invaluable financial proposals to the Bishops for their consideration.
Archbishop Matthew Ishaya Audu of Jos Archdiocese later chaired the second part of the morning session, during which all the various CBCN Agencies gave their Reports. The reporting Agencies include: CSN Investment Concepts Ltd (CICL), Veritas Travels, Salus Trust, Veritas University, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Misereor, Opus Securitatis, Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN), Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), and the Reunion of Episcopal Conferences of West Africa (RECOWA) which is not an Agency.
After a short break, the Bishops returned for the evening session chaired by Most Rev. Michael Odogwu Elue of Issele Uku Diocese. Reports were received from the Secretary General, Very Rev. Fr. Zacharia Samjumi, and from the nine provinces of Abuja, Benin, Calabar, Ibadan, Jos, Kaduna, Lagos, Onitsha and Owerri. These were followed with extensive group discussions which gave fruit to a number of resolutions.
The Bishops concluded the proceedings for the day with evening prayers in private.
