Reflections By Rev. Fr. David Okolie

โ€˜A COMING THAT RESTORES’ (2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT(B) CATECHESIS)

Rev. Fr. David Okolie

Dearest friends, the whole preparation and the eventual COMING of our Lord, Jesus Christ (Christmas) are geared towards RESTORING us to FRIENDSHIP with God which we have lost through SIN. Thus, activities, preparations and the eventual celebration of the NATIVITY of Jesus Christ (Christmas) which do not aim at restoring the people to RIGHTEOUSNESS, are simply questionable.

The above is actually what the Scriptures mean when we are encouraged to โ€˜prepare the way for the Lord’s coming and to make his path straight; filling up every valley and leveling every hill’ย (cf. Is 40:3-5).

Unfortunately, it seems that the devil and his agents have highjacked the Christmas celebration. Thus, it seems to be within the celebration that all forms of evil/immorality seem to be thriving. But amidst all the erroneous presentations and celebrations of the season, you and I should be able to understand and also teach others that it is a season of RESTORATION and RECONCILIATION with God and neighbour, which John the Baptist preached in his own time. Thus, the Catechism affirms:

Finally, with John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit begins the RESTORATION to man of “the divine likeness,” prefiguring what he would achieve with and IN CHRISTย (cf. CCC n. 720).

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Therefore, you and I should resolve to enter this season of Christmas HOLIER than we were and then to be conscious of our activities during the celebration so that we do not throw away our VALUES during the course of the celebration.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Remember also to make out time to go for CHRISTMAS CONFESSION. Has your parish priest fixed days for the Christmas Confession?

We pray the Blessed Virgin Mary to always support us with her powerful intercession. Amen๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
