Rev. Fr. David Okolie
Dearest friends, it is important to remind ourselves about certain things that would be taking place from next Sunday, December 3, 2023 (1st Sunday of Advent, Year B).* Of course, we already know that the Church’s Liturgical Year *ENDS with the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe* and then a new Liturgical Year *BEGINS with the 1st Sunday of ADVENT.*
So, let us take note of the following about the *ADVENT season:*
👉🏼1. Predominant Liturgical Colour will be *VIOLET/PURPLE* (Except on the 3rd Sunday of Advent/GAUDETE, which will be *ROSE*)
👉🏼2. DO NOT USE *“Glory to God in the highest”* during Mass (except on feasts and solemnities)
👉🏼3. ALWAYS USE *‘Alleluia’* (It is during LENT that Alleluia is omitted).
👉🏼4. Sunday Readings will be *YEAR B*
👉🏼5. Weekday Readings will be *CYCLE II*
👉🏼6. Breviary will be *VOLUME I* of the three volumes.
👉🏼 “… ADVENT is the season that prepares the Christian people for the graces that will be given again this year in the celebration of the great solemnity of CHRISTMAS… there is always this *DOUBLE SENSE OF ADVENTUS* – a double sense of the Lord’s *COMING.* The season prepares us for his coming in the graces of *Christmas* feast and his coming in *Judgement* at the end of time” (Cf. Homiletic Directory, nn. 78-79).
👉🏼Lest I forget, have you gotten your *2024 LITURGICAL CALENDAR?*
Welcome to the Church’s New Year!
Remain blessed🙏🏼
