The Archbishop of Calabar, His Grace, Most Rev. Joseph Ekuwem, has called on the faithful to allow God to guide their choices in life, stressing that divine direction brings peace and fulfillment.

Delivering his homily during the morning Mass at the Retreat and Youth Development Centre, Nto Ekpu Ikot Nko, Obot Akara, on September 12, 2025, Archbishop Ekuwem urged Christians to surrender their will to God’s, especially in matters of vocation, career, and personal endeavors.

Citing the scriptures, the Prelate, who was the Chief Celebrant at the Mass, noted that “human decisions often falter, but God’s choices remain perfect and everlasting.” He reminded the congregation that trust in God’s plan is a mark of true discipleship.

The occasion coincided with the birthday of the Bishop of Ilorin, Most Rev. Anselm Pendo Lawani, who was also remembered in prayers during the liturgy.

The Mass, which began with an adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, drew the presence of clergy, religious from different congregations, and lay faithful in large numbers.

Archbishop Ekuwem concluded his exhortation by encouraging the faithful to remain steadfast in prayer, humility, and openness to God’s will, assuring them that “when God chooses for us, we cannot go wrong.”
