Another female theologian to lead CABAN for the next 4years

…as Bible scholars concludes 16th annual conference in Abuja

As the tenure of Sr. Prof. Theresa Okure, (SHCJ) led executive committee of the Catholic Biblical Association of Nigeria (CABAN), gradually comes to an end, the Bible scholars and experts in Nigeria, as part of activities for their 16th annual conference, again elected another female theologian, Sr. Dr. Mary Jerome Obiorah, IHM as the association’s president for the next 4 years.

The election which held on Wednesday, November 16, 2023, at the end of the business meeting of the association at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Resource Centre, also witnessed the emergence of Fr. Dr. Victor Onwukeme, MSP, as the Vice-president, Fr. Prof. Michael Udoekpo as Secretary, Fr. Dr. Francis Adelabu as Assistant Secretary, Fr. Dr. Michael Pilani as Treasurer, Fr. James Tongret Dasat as Financial Secretary, Fr. Dr. Oliver Ugwu as Business Manager, and Sr. Mary Benedict Isara, Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Maigari and Fr. Dr. Daniel Onuorah as Assistant Business Managers. Also Fr. Dr. George Odafe, Fr. Dr. Cosmas Uzowulu, OFMCap, Fr. Gerald Emem Umoren, Fr. Dr. John Jimoh made up members of the Editorial Board.

The newly elected CABAN president who is a Senior Lecturer, Department of Religion, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in her remarks, thanked all the members for the confidence reposed in her to serve them. She pledge her undivided commitment to the growth and development of the association and solicited for support from members.

In an exclusive interview with CSN Media, the newly elected secretary and chairman of the conference planning committee, Fr. Prof. Michael Udoekpo, disclosed that the new executive committee hopes to improve, expand and add value to CABAN through collaboration with other biblical associations in the world, so as to learn and build a universal church.

The 16th annual conference of CABAN in Abuja, with the theme: ‘War and peace in the Bible,’ which started on Wednesday, November 15, rounded off with the closing Mass and departure on Friday, November 17, 2023.
