Archbishop Kaigama to IDPs: Know That You Are Not Forgotten

By CSN Media

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, has assured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Abuja that they are not forgotten. He gave this assurance in his homily at the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, celebrated at St. Kevin’s Pastoral Area, IDP Camp, Kabusa, Abuja.

The Prelate acknowledged the challenges faced by the IDPs, who have been displaced from their homes and families due to various circumstances. He consoled them, saying, “To those of you living in the IDP camp, know that you are not forgotten.”

The Archbishop commended the IDPs for their courage and faith, which he said inspires everyone. He encouraged them to continue trusting in God, who “embraces us in our vulnerability and walks with us through every trial.”

Reflecting on the significance of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, which commemorates the presentation of Jesus in the temple, the homilist emphasized that just as Jesus was presented to God’s people, “we are also called to present ourselves and our struggles to the Lord.”

The Archbishop prayed for the IDPs and for the strength to continue their journey with faith, hope, and love. He also encouraged everyone to be agents of God’s love and purification by bringing hope and light to all those they encounter. “May the light of Christ, whom we celebrate today, guide us through the sorrows and darkness of these times, to the joy of His eternal presence,” he prayed.

As a token of love and support, the Archbishop of Abuja presented gifts to the IDPs. He noted that the Church recognizes the struggles of the IDPs and is committed to supporting them. “The little we can afford as a Church, which we brought with us, we will leave with your priest in charge, Fr. Innocent Kachalla,” he said.
