AU/UN Women hold stakeholders consultation to end violence against women, girl child in DRC

African Union and the United Nations Women had on Tuesday October 17, 2023, convened a stakeholders consultation on positive masculinity in leadership to end violence against women and the girl child at the presidential villa of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Kinshasa.

The stakeholders consultation engaged a sampling of traditional rulers and religious leaders from several African countries, alongside functionaries of the African Union, the DRC Presidency, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) and the Joint Professional Training (JPT).

The Executive Director of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Rev. Fr. George Ehusani and the Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya, formed part of the Nigerian delegation to the event.

The draft of this convention which will be presented to the Assembly of African Heads of States and Governments for ratification, at their 37th General Meeting coming up in 2024, is aimed at preparing an AU convention on the elimination of violence against women and girls.
