The third day of the bishops’ plenary in Auchi, Edo State, began with the Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by Holy Mass and Lauds, setting a spiritual tone for the day’s proceedings.
The Holy Mass, commemorating the feast of St. Bartholomew, was celebrated by Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, Bishop of Awka Diocese. In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor urged his fellow bishops to keep striving to live exemplary lives, emphasizing that this is a sure way to win souls for Christ.
Unlike the previous day, which focused on meeting with priests, the bishops engaged with representatives of the laity in a highly interactive session. The laity seized the opportunity to express their thoughts, pains, concerns, and desires to their shepherds. The bishops listened attentively, offering appreciation, explanations, and assurances of care regarding the concerns raised.
Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, CBCN President, among other points, advocated for the development of a structured syllabus for laity formation, highlighting its importance.
In the evening, the bishops were treated to a beautiful Gala Night at the magnificent Auchi Diocesan Pastoral Center, still under construction.
Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, Catholic Bishop of Auchi, extended a warm welcome and gratitude to all the bishops, encouraging charity towards church leaders for their dedication to serving the world.
The day’s programmes concluded with the grand ceremony which featured various presentations, cultural displays, and entertaining performances in honor of the bishops, making for a memorable evening.
