BENUE KILLINGS: Bishops of Abuja Province Condole with Bishop Anagbe

Dear Bishop Anagbe,

We have been deeply saddened by the news of the killing of over 200 people by gunmen between Friday June 13th 2025 to the early hours of Saturday, 14th June 2025. On behalf of the Catholic Bishops of Abuja Province, we would like to express our condolences to the bereaved families and sympathy to all victims. As you know, the Church strongly condemns such wanton acts of terrorism and violence targeting innocent human lives. We believe that these kinds of attacks in any society will only intensify fear, hatred and polarization in society. The attacks against innocent people are a sin against God who offers life as a divine gift.

By expressing our strong condemnation of this act of terrorism, we hold all citizens of Benue State in our thoughts and prayers as they pass through a critical time in their history. We call on the relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are brought to justice. As people of faith who believe in the dignity and fullness of life of every human being, we are committed to join hands with you to build communities of peace and reconciliation.

May God Almighty heal the deep wounds, protect all God’s children and help them to overcome hatred, intolerance and violence.
Yours in Christ’s love,
