At the opening ceremony of the CBCN plenary today being the first day of the plenary.
Archbishop Lucius Ugorji has been appointed the new Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, succeeding Archbishop Anthony Obinna.
The appointment was announced by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Most Rev. Anthonio Guido Filipazzi. He stated that “the Holy Father Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Most Rev. Anthony Obinna as Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese, and appointed Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji in his place.”
Archbishop Ugorji is the Vice President of the CBCN and was before now the Bishop of Umuahia and Administrator of Ahiara diocese.
Archbishop Ugorji still remains the Administrator of both Umuahia and Ahiara dioceses.
