Bring the Light of Christ to Nigeria’s Darkest Corners, Bishop Dugu Admonishes New Priests

By CSN Media

In his homily at the Vincentian priestly ordination held at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Maryland, Enugu, Catholic Bishop of Katsina Ala Diocese, Most Rev. Isaac Dugu charged the new priests to bring the light of Christ to Nigeria’s darkest corners.

At the ordination Mass which took place recently, Bishop Dugu, in his homily, emphasized the critical role of priests in shining the light of Christ in a world filled with darkness and despair. He urged the new priests to be courageous and steadfast in their ministry, especially in the face of Nigeria’s daunting challenges, including economic hardship, insecurity, and social injustice.

“Our dear sons and brothers, our modern society is changing so rapidly. You will have to brace up to the emerging realities of our time. Also, brace yourselves for the burden,” Bishop Dugu said. “In Nigeria, where many face the harsh realities of economic hardship, insecurity, and social injustice, your role will involve confronting these issues with Christ’s love and courage.”

The bishop reminded the new priests that their ministry takes on vital urgency in a country where poverty, high cost of living, hunger, insecurity, and social injustice are all too real. He encouraged them to stand with those who are marginalized, be a voice for the voiceless, and bring the light of Christ into the darkest corners of society.

Bishop Dugu also emphasized the importance of prayer in their ministry, urging them to be men of God, men of prayer, and men of meditation on God’s word. He reminded them that at the heart of the priesthood is the Eucharist, and that they should celebrate Mass daily, even if the faithful are unable to be present.
