Episcopal ordination: Bishop Musa’s 3 point agenda for new Diocese

The bishop of the newly erected diocese of Katsina, Most Rev. Gerald Mamman Musa, disclosed that the new diocese will focus on three points to start with: first, engage in primary evangelisation in rural and urban areas; secondly, pastoral care of people who are physically sick, emotionally traumatised, educationally backwards; and thirdly, promote vocation to priestly and religious life.
“We are aware of the challenges ahead of us, which include setting up the needed administrative structures for the diocese. We will engage in primary evangelisation in rural and urban areas, pastoral care of people who are physically sick, emotionally traumatised, educationally backwards and promote vocation to priestly and religious life. We shall adopt a wholistic approach to evangelisation.”
Bishop Musa made this disclosure in his remark during the his Episcopal ordination and installation and the canonical erection of the new Katsina Diocese on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the open field of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Katsina.
The new bishop called on individuals and organisations to partner with him in building the new diocese, by investing in their work of evangelisation, educating the poorest of the poor, empowering people and supporting the training of seminarians.
While noting that the ceremony of the day, marked the beginning of a sacred journey entrusted to him by the Church, Bishop Musa who is historically the first hausa Bishop in Nigeria, expressed gratitude to God for calling him to serve his people in Katsina.
The new bishop also extended his appreciation to all the bishops, priests, religious and the lay faithful who had come to witness the occasion. He specially acknowledged the presence of his Muslim relatives and friends who travelled far to personally witnessed the occasion.
