Amarachi Ojiako Judith, an undergraduate of Godfrey Okoye University, has emerged as the first runner-up in the prestigious Abuja City Journal (ACJ), National Essay Competition 2024.

The grand finale, held on December 9 at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, showcased the intellectual prowess of Nigerian youth, with over 700 entries narrowed down to 25 exceptional finalists.

Ojiako’s essay on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as an Alternative Fuel for Transportation and Its Cost Impact on Subsidy Removal in Nigeria earned her a cash prize of ₦1.5 million.

Reflecting on her achievement, she praised ACJ for its dedication to youth empowerment.

“This competition proves that good things can come out of this country and that young people are the future,” she said, emphasizing the transformative power of such initiatives.

The competition’s theme resonated deeply with the nation’s push for sustainable energy solutions, and the event garnered support from key stakeholders, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Pi-CNG.

Godfrey Okoye University’s Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, received the award on behalf of the institution.

She commended ACJ for stimulating young minds and providing platforms that tackle challenges like youth disengagement and short attention spans.

ACJ Publisher and CEO, Mr. Foluso Sylvanus Ojo, described the competition as a beacon for innovation and education.

“Through this initiative, we are building a generation that will not settle for the status quo but strive for a better Nigeria,” he said.

As Amarachi Ojiako and other winners return to their communities, they carry with them not just accolades but the vision of a cleaner, brighter future for Nigeria.
