GOODNEWS: Vatican Commends CBCN on ComWEEK Initiative

DICASTERIUM PRO COMMUNICATIONE

From the Vatican, April 29th 2026

Commendation and Endorsement Message for the fifth ComWEEK celebration in Nigeria

Your Excellency,
With profound joy and fraternal esteem, I extend the congratulations of the Dicastery for Communication to you and to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria for your steadfast commitment to the apostolate of communication.

As you noted during the Ad limina visit, we have followed with great interest the development of Communications Week (ComWEEK), which over the past five years has transformed the celebration of the World Communications Day into a week devoted to media literacy and spiritual reflection at the community level.

In this way, the Holy Father’s messages resonate deeply in the lives of the faithful, fostering a more conscious and truly “synodal” presence in the digital sphere as well.

I gratefully acknowledge receipt of the materials prepared for the fifth edition, kindly forwarded by the National Director of Social Communications.

These resources, together with the initiative as a whole—distinguished by professional excellence and pastoral sensitivity—demonstrate that ComWEEK stands as a luminous testimony to how a local Episcopal Conference can respond creatively to the challenges of our time, offering a valuable contribution to the universal Church.

May the Spirit of the Risen Lord continue to guide your ministry and strengthen the witness of the Church in Nigeria through the noble art of communication.

With prayerful wishes for the forthcoming ComWEEK celebrations, I remain yours in Christ,

Dott. Paolo Ruffini
Prefect

Most Reverend Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso
