MERCY SHOWN TO IDPs AT DAUDU, MAKURDI DIOCESE

By: Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Utume

(Coordinator Makurdi Diocese, Migrants and Refugees Unit)

True to their name and charism, the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy (DMMM) have extended their love for the needy and vulnerable to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in a camp at Daudu, Benue State. This intervention took place on 8th of May, 2025 through the advocacy of the DMMM community working in the Diocese of Makurdi.

Working in collaboration with the Migrants and Refugees Unit of the Diocese, the Sisters were maintaining the annual traditional outreach of performing corporal works of mercy. Their choice of Daudu was informed by the sad reality of displacement occasioned by marauding herdsmen in the area.

Through the intervention, the people suffering in the camp received donations of food items, clothes and shoes. This brought much succour and relief to the beneficiaries who appreciated the kindness of the donors. They also appreciated the Bishop, Most Rev. Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe CMF, for always being the voice of the voiceless, praying for God’s continuous blessing on them.
