The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), Catholic Diocese of Sokoto as part of its activities to commemorate the 2023 annual day with the Bishop, celebrated the children cathedraticum.
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, who was the Chief Celebrant at the Mass, in his remark, appreciated the children for the gifts. He commended the the initiative and encouraged the children to be good Missionaries.
The National Director of PMS, Rev. Fr. Solomon Zaku in his homily at the Mass, commended the Diocese of Sokoto for initating the children cathedraticum which conforms with the aims of the Holy Childhood Association (HCA). He encouraged the children to be faithful to the missionary commitment they made and strive to make more friends for Jesus.
“The HCA has dual mandate: Missionary education and Missionary cooperation. HCA teaches children how to give, make sacrifice and be charitable. Having cathedraticum at tender age will help them to have spirit of giving.”
The PMS Director of Sokoto Diocese, Sr. Sylvaline Obiezughara thanked the Bishop for his support. She equally appreciated the National Director of PMS for coming to grace the occasion and acknowledged the support of all people of goodwill.
Part of the activities of the Holy Childhood Association is the children’s day with the Bishop. It is a day set aside within the year, to inculcate the spirit and virtue of giving in the children. For the PMS of Sokoto Diocese, this day is jointly celebrated with their annual day with the Bishop and the children cathedraticum on the 26th of December every year.
Different Popes have called on Catholic Bishops all over the world to promote and encourage the activities and programs of the Holy Childhood in their Dioceses and Ecclesiastical jurisdictions.
