Vatican lauds CBCN on Communications week celebration

By PJ Usanga

Responding to the report of the maiden edition of the Communications Week (ComWeek 2022), the Holy See has expressed her “sentiments of great joy and satisfaction to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN)” for what they described as a “very impressive report on the celebration of the maiden edition of the Communications Week programme in Nigeria.”

In a congratulatory message signed by the Prefect, Dr. Paolo Ruffini, and sent through the National Director of Social Communications, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Umoh, the Dicastery for Social Communications disclosed that they “consider the initiative as commendable and worthy of consideration,” while noting the endorsement and recommendation by SIGNIS-Africa at the  congress held in Kagali, Rwanda last year, “to all Episcopal Conferences in Africa to adopt the Nigeria and Burkina Faso model of commemorating the World Communication Day with a week-long celebration.”

“It is significant to note the enormous effort your office put into planning the programme and the incredible outreach and high level of participation recorded during the celebration of World Communication Day (WCD) in your country.

“In your report, you also did recommend the possibility of the universal Church reflecting on the theme ‘media literacy for discipleship’. Please be assured that such a suggestion will receive the deserved attention,” the message further read.

While giving their assurances of prayers for a successful media apostolate, the Dicastery urged the CBCN, through the Social Communications office, to keep up the excellent effort, even as they look forward to the report of the second edition.
