Bishop Eluke demands synergy among Catholic communicators

The Auxiliary Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, Most Rev. Patrick Eluke called for synergy among Catholic Social Communicators in the Diocese.

Bishop Eluke stated this at a recent interactive session with Catholic communication practitioners in the Diocese, led by the Diocesan Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Ikokwu Onwuechekwa. The gathering, which took place at St. John Parish, Rumuokwurusi, was attended by members of the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Catholic Artists and Entertainers Association of Nigeria (CAEAN) and Catholic Theatre Group.

Bishop Eluke lauded the groups for their contributions in the
propagation of the faith through different forms of communications and urged them not to relent. While acknowledging that lack of funds has made it difficult for the diocese to carry out some of the programs of the groups in the diocese, Bishop Eluke promised that the Church would always support them whenever they come up with noble ideas for the development of the church media apostolate.

In an address, Fr. Ikokwu told the Bishop that plans were on for the formation and inauguration of SIGNIS, the umbrella
body for all communication groups in the Diocese. He listed the challenges facing the communication apostolate of the diocese to include lack of patronage of the diocesan printing press by diocesan societies and organizations, as well as the
rising cost of running the diocesan social communication directorate.

Fr. Ikokwu who called for more funding for the department to enable her attend to her many challenges, also appreciated the Auxiliary Bishop for creating the platform for the interaction and for his support during the last World
Communications Day.
