The ongoing gathering of the Catholic bishops in Auchi has sparked a surge of interest in vocations among young boys in the locality, with many expressing their desire to dedicate their lives to God’s service as priests.
In an exclusive interview with the National Director of Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Rev. Fr. Michael Nsikak Umoh, several young teenage boys who actively participated in the Benediction and Holy Mass with the bishops expressed their joy and amazement at the sight of such huge collection of bishops and priests in their vicinity. They expressed their intention to consider the priestly life.
The boys, including Daniel Obotse, Agunu Isaac, Omokheme God’spower, Aminu Sylvester, and Otsu Emmanuel, all in their primary and post-primary education years, disclosed that the solemn prayers and Mass with over 70 bishops from across Nigeria inspired their admiration for the Church and ignited a zeal for the ministerial priesthood.
Describing the experience as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” the boys expressed their gratitude for the chance to engage with the bishops.
Padre Mike encouraged the young men to remain committed to their resolve, stating that their energy and enthusiasm are palpable. He added that the Church is excited to nurture their vocations.
For Aminu Sylvester, a Junior Secondary 3 (JSS3) student, the experience has been transformative. “Witnessing the bishops’ dedication to their faith, their calmness in worship, and the beauty of their assembly has inspired me to consider a life of service to God,” he said. “I feel a sense of purpose and meaning that I’ve never felt before.”
The plenary assembly, concluding on Friday, features daily Masses, Eucharistic adorations, workshops, and interactive sessions, providing a unique opportunity for the bishops to engage with the local community.
