In a gesture of compassion and commitment to the dignity of every human life, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, on Tuesday 17th June 2025, has donated wheelchairs to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kware, Sokoto State.
The Bishop, who was ably represented by the Diocesan Chancellor, Very. Revd. Fr. Nuhu Iliya, accompanied by Frs. Matthew Megwa and Pascal Salifu, presented the donation as a sign of the Dioceseโs relentless solidarity with the sick, especially those often marginalized due to mental health conditions, and to reflect the synergy and mutual relationship of the Diocese across cultures, religion and ethnicity. This act reflects Bishop Kukahโs enduring advocacy for social justice, human dignity, and inclusive care for all members of society.
Receiving the wheelchairs, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Abubakar Baguda expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the management and patients. He warmly welcomed the bishopโs representative and described the donation as timely, impactful, and deeply appreciated. He spoke extensively on how this donation will enable them discharge their duties effectively. He assured that the diocese had built a relationship already with the hospital since time passed, as he recalled how the bishop has been supportive to them. He finally congratulated his lordship on the recent federal honor of CON (commander of the order of the Niger) conferred on him. He praised his gestures and generosity to humanity and the impactful work he has been doing. He prayed God bless him and direct his affairs.
This benevolent act further defines the role of faith-based leadership in advancing humanitarian causes and strengthening community health responses, especially in underserved sectors.
