The Catholic Diocese of Oyo has announced the peaceful passing of its Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Julius Babatunde Adelakun, who died on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 6:20 p.m. He was 91 years old.
Born on November 4, 1934, Bishop Adelakun was ordained a Catholic priest on June 27, 1965, and consecrated bishop on February 11, 1973. He shepherded the Diocese of Oyo with dedication for decades, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service to God, the Church, and humanity.
In a statement signed by Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, Bishop of Oyo, the diocese expressed gratitude to God for the life and ministry of Bishop Adelakun, describing him as a man who lived “a full, impactful life” and whose witness touched multitudes.
The diocese called on the faithful to pray for the repose of his soul, asking God to grant him eternal rest and to comfort all who mourn him. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
