PRESENTING THE 2026 COMWEEK CELEBRATION

  1. The National Directorate of Social Communications of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) is pleased to present the plans and materials for the celebration of the 2026 Communications Week (ComWEEK) in all Catholic parishes and ecclesial institutions in Nigeria, from Sunday 10 May to Sunday 17 May.
  1. The official flag off ceremony will hold in Kaduna Archdiocese, at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna to be celebrated by the Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, who is also the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN). Among other things, the CBCN President will give the 2026 ComWEEK inauguration message while the Archdiocesan Director of Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Melchidezek Kadiri, will coordinate the various CBCN-approved Catholic communication bodies in the Archdiocese, in the presence of the National Director and the CSN Communication team.
  1. All Catholic parishes, led especially by the Parish Priest, heads of groups and schools in Nigeria are expected to freely access the daily manual online and use it to facilitate their encounter each day of the week. For those in the parishes, it is recommended that the teaching be part of the evening Mass, or any other most suitable time that guarantees massive participation by a greater number of people. Besides, the Manual and the daily lessons are to be shared with all parishioners to enable those who may not be able to be at Mass to participate from their points of convenience. Leaders of institutions are expected to adapt and apply the programme to their most suitable time and circumstance.
  1. The new Bishop Chairman for Social Communications, Most Rev. Gerald Mamman Musa, who is also the Bishop of Katsina Diocese, will preside at the Closing Mass scheduled to hold at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, on Sunday 17 May, 2026. Being the World Communications Day WCD), with the theme, “Preserving Human Voices and Faces”, the Bishop will give a reflection based on this theme chosen by the Holy Father for the 2026 WCD celebration, and grant a press brief after the Holy Mass.
  1. All priests and leaders of all ecclesial bodies and institutions are hereby implored to kindly ensure that this programme, an initiative of our Bishops, is given its rightful place and well celebrated in their places of control, while all Communications Directors are to take the lead and give directions in their dioceses and religious institutions.
