The Catholic Diocese of Auchi is poised to make history as it puts finishing touches to its preparation to host the 2024 second plenary meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) from August 22 to 30, 2024. This marks the first time in the dioceseโs 21-year history that it will host this episcopal assembly.
After the preliminary days of interaction, the plenary will officially commence with an Opening Mass at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Auchi on Sunday, August 25, followed by the general opening ceremonies at Uyi Grands Hall, Auchi. The event will witness over 80 Catholic bishops from across Nigeria in the Diocese of Auchi, situated in the Edo North Senatorial District of Edo State, also known as Afenmai land.
In a press release signed by Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, it was confirmed that Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, has expressed the dioceseโs readiness to host this significant event and extended an invitation to all sons and daughters of the land to partake in the celebration. “We invite all Catholic faithful, both at home and abroad, as well as friends and well-wishers, to join us in this momentous occasion.”
The body of the Catholic Hierarchy holds its plenary meetings biannually to discuss important issues related to faith and society. The outcomes of these meetings are subsequently communicated through official communiquรฉs to the Catholic community and the general public.
