Today, Thursday, 11 September, 2025, marks the long-awaited opening of the plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN). The historic gathering is being hosted by the Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, under the warm embrace of the Bishop, clergy, and faithful of the diocese.

The ultra-modern facility prepared for the occasion is the newly completed Retreat and Youth Development Centre, a masterpiece situated in Nto, Ikot, Obot Akarrra Local Government Area, the country home of the famous Nigeria’s Senate President, His Excellency, Distinguished Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio.

The facility with over 300 rooms, an Adoration and Mercy chapels, spacious meeting halls, a dining area, and a well-laid network of tarred roads. Its green landscapes and recreational spaces provide a serene environment ideal for reflection and deliberations.

The Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, gathering as one body, are expected to prayerfully deliberate on issues affecting the Church and the nation. This plenary is seen not only as a spiritual assembly but also as a moment of grace and renewed commitment to the mission of the Church.
