23RD SUNDAY CATECHESIS: THE IMPLICATIONS OF LOVE

IMG_20230909_102342

Dearest friends, you can attest to the fact that there is this widespread profession of LOVEย in our world today, but in reality, LOVE is not actually felt. Thus, either the professions are fake or that a number of persons do not really understand what LOVE is all about.

Now, how can we explain it that within a Christian community, where LOVE is preached almost by all the members, yet, deep down the hearts of many of them, they detest one another and even wish harm to themselves? Again, how do we explain it, that a couple that were shouting LOVE to each other few months/years ago during their wedding are now living apart and no longer talk to each other? Some in the same situation have even abandoned their marriages. Or do we not often see young people who claim to LOVE themselves but once the other persons become pregnant, the so called LOVERS would deny the pregnancy, run away, or even move for ABORTION? What about those who USE others and then DUMPย them after many years of fake love? What about pastors and ministers who deceive their members, not telling them the truth about their salvation but instead extorting from them under the guise of LOVE? The list could go on and on.

Therefore, it is important that we really understand the demands of this LOVE that we often profess. The Scripture beautifully sums up the implications of LOVE thus: โ€œIf you LOVE others, you would NEVER do them wrong…” (cf. Rom 13:10). Jesus himself made the LOVE of God and the LOVE of NEIGHBOURย the greatest of the Commandments and the summary of the entire Law and the Prophets (cf. Matt 22:36-40). Following the above teaching, the Catechism affirms thus: โ€œThe Decalogue must be interpreted in light of this twofold yet single COMMANDMENT of LOVE…”ย (cf. CCC n. 2055).

We pray the Blessed Virgin Mary to always support us with her powerful intercession. Amen๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Happy Sunday and remain blessed!
