The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has officially announced the funeral arrangements for its Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Peter Nworie Chukwu, who passed away on April 10, 2026.
In a formal notification issued by the Diocesan Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Matthew Uzoma Opoke, the obsequies are scheduled to take place at St. Theresa Cathedral, Abakaliki, according to the following timeline:
Vigil Mass: Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
Burial Mass: Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
At the time of his passing, Bishop Chukwu was serving a dual role as the Local Ordinary of Abakaliki and the Assistant Secretary General of the CBCN.
