Are You Willing to Surrender All for the Gospel? – Bishop Badejo
The Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, challenged Christians to surrender all for the Gospel, emphasizing the universal call to mission and evangelization.
In his homily during the 2024 Mission Sunday celebration, Bishop Badejo urged Catholics to reflect on their commitment to spreading the Good News. “Are you willing to surrender all for the Gospel?” he asked.
Citing Jesus’ words in Mark 10:29-30, Bishop Badejo emphasized the rewards of sacrificing for the sake of the Gospel.
“Jesus promises that those who leave everything for the Gospel will receive a hundred times as much in return.”.
Bishop Badejo further stressed that mission work requires selflessness, generosity, and relentless prayer. “Let us be generous in our work for the missions, selfless in our giving, and relentless in our praying.”
Alluding to the words of Mother Theresa: “The only kind of giving that brings real benefit is the one that hurts,” the homilist invited the faithful to re-examine their priorities
“Let us surrender our fears, doubts, and attachments to God, and embrace the missionary spirit.”
The Prelate encouraged Catholics to support the Church’s missionary efforts, noting that all collections from Mission Sunday would be sent to the Pope for evangelization.
The bishop also reiterated the importance of prayer for missionaries, including catechists, religious sisters, priests, and lay faithful serving in various capacities.
“Today is an ideal day to pray for those engaged in mission work and to ask God to make us strong agents of His mission of salvation,” Bishop Badejo concluded.
