The hallowed Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Auchi, was filled to capacity with Bishops, Priests, Religious, Catholic faithful, and many dignitaries for the triple celebrations of the dedication of the Cathedral building, the 20th anniversary of the Canonical Erection of the Diocese and the 20th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary of the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Dunia.

Along with the Church hierarchy, the event was graced by other dignitaries in the likes of the Deputy Governor of Edo State and his wife, Rt. Hon. And Mrs. Philip Shaibu; the Senator representing Edo North and his wife, Senator and Mrs. Francis Alihimena; the former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and a host of others.

The homilist, who is also the Vicar of Auchi Diocese, Rt. Monsignor Benedict Etafo, felicitated with the entire Catholic faithful of the Diocese for the journey so far, commending Bishop Dunia’s doggedness evidenced in the many great strides witnessed in the Diocese within the space of just twenty years.

Monsignor Etafo noted that with the pace at which the diocese is moving, in the next five years, greater achievements will be recorded.

The Vicar further stated that the Cathedral building henceforth is the dwelling of God and a Sacred place, urging all who wished to pray or worship to enter with deep reverence and pray in confidence that God will hear and bless them.

The homily was followed by the rites of dedication of the Cathedral and installation of the Blessed Sacrament at the Sacred tabernacle by the Bishop.

The celebration availed the opportunity to recognise some worthy sons and daughters of the Diocese for their relentless sacrifices to the development of Auchi Diocese.

Other activities of the day were the presentation of Certificate of Dedication and a thanksgiving procession led by all the priests, religious and laity present at the Mass.

The liturgical celebration preceded the social activities at the Cathedral premises, characterised by special presentations by the CWO, the Block Rosary Brigade Guard, pupils of MOPHAS as well as cutting of the anniversary cake led by the Bishop of the Diocese.

At the vote of thanks, Bishop Dunia appreciated all present for the show of love and support and showered blessings on the Planning Committee led by Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa.
