The Episcopal Chairman of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), Most Rev. John Oyejola charged members of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) to take their work seriously as messengers of God and be guardian angels to those they serve.

In his homily at the Opening Mass for the PMU General Assembly, which coincided with the Feast of the Guardian Angels, on Wednesday, October 2, at the St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Bishop Oyejola emphasized that guardian angels can be both spiritual and physical.

“Guardian angels are those who show up when we are down or in trouble,” he explained.

“As PMU members, you are called to be angels to others, guiding and leading them towards the right path.”

Bishop Oyejola highlighted God’s love for humanity, citing the sacrifice of His son and the provision of angels to guide and protect man.

“We have spiritual and physical angels. Our parents can be our angels, leading us right. We can also be angels to others by guiding and leading them,” he said.

The PMU General Assembly with its theme: “Fostering Universal Missionary Spirit,” is taking place from October 1 to 4, 2024, at CSN. Attendees include PMU delegates, comprising priests and religious from various Catholic dioceses in Nigeria.
