The Episcopal Chairman for Laity, Most Rev. John Ebebe Ayah has highlighted the numerous challenges facing the country, emphasizing the resilience and steadfastness required to navigate these turbulent times. The gathering, held at St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, saw a convergence of lay chaplains dedicated to spiritual guidance and community support.
The ongoing Leadership retreat which began on Thursday, 11 July, 2024 will be rounding off on Saturday, 13 July, 2024 at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria.
Bishop Ayah did not mince words as he painted a grim picture of the current state of affairs in Nigeria. “It is not easy in Nigeria where nothing seems to be working right,” he began, his voice echoing with a blend of sorrow and determination. He pointed to the myriad issues plaguing the nation, from economic instability and political unrest to widespread corruption and infrastructural decay.
The Bishop’s remarks struck a chord with many in attendance, as he detailed the day-to-day struggles of ordinary Nigerians. “Our people are suffering,” he continued. “They face unemployment, insecurity, and a lack of basic amenities. It is disheartening to see the spirit of our nation being tested in such harsh conditions.”
Bishop Ayah called on the chaplains to remain steadfast in their mission, urging them to offer solace and hope to their congregations. “In these trying times, our role as spiritual leaders is more crucial than ever. We must be the beacons of light in the darkness, guiding our communities with faith and compassion.”
He also addressed the need for collective action and solidarity. “We cannot afford to be passive observers. We must actively engage in efforts to bring about positive change. This means holding our leaders accountable, supporting social justice initiatives, and fostering a sense of unity among our people.”
The Bishop’s homily resonated deeply with the chaplains, who echoed his sentiments and expressed their commitment to uplifting their communities. We must continue to stand with our people, offering them hope and strength in these difficult times.”
Bishop Ayah’s message serves as a reminder of the resilience and faith required to endure and overcome adversity. In a nation where “nothing seems to be working right,” his call to action and solidarity provides a glimmer of hope for a brighter future.
