Bishop Nwobi Establishes First-ever Catholic Chaplaincy in Ahiara Diocese

By Ahiara Diocesan Communications

In a historic development, Bishop Simeon Okezuo Nwobi of Ahiara created the first-ever Catholic Chaplaincy in the Diocese. The event, which took place on Thursday, January 30, 2025, brought the number of parishes in the diocese to 90.

Carved out of Queen of Peace Parish Oboama Ezinihitte Mbaise, the new Chaplaincy, known as Holy Family Chaplaincy, is located at the heart of the Aboh Junction metropolis. Characteristically, the Chaplaincy has no territorial limitations and is open to all Catholics who wish to belong.

One unique feature of the Holy Family Chaplaincy is that it is a media Chaplaincy, located at the Mater Media Village, an ongoing project site for the proposed Ahiara Diocesan printing press, Mater TV, and Mater Radio.

The Chaplaincy will be pastored by priests in the Ahiara Diocesan media and communications apostolate, with Fr. Jude Thaddeus Osondu, Mater TV Manager, serving as Chaplain. Also, Fr. Benjamin Ogbonna, Editor-in-Chief of The Guide newspapers, will serve as Resident Priest, and the Diocesan Director of Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Prof. Innocent Uwah, will serve as Visiting Priest.

The Chancellor of the Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Evaristus Mbata, expressed great optimism about the rapid growth of the new Chaplaincy and invoked God’s blessings upon them.
