Cameroon Bishops condemn Boko Haram attacks in parts of Cameroon

Catholic Bishops of Cameroon condemned the horrendous killings and attacks in the far north region of Cameroon, and expressed deep compassion for the victims in the region.

In the final communiquรฉ issued at the end of theย 47th Annual Seminar of theย National Episcopal Conference of Cameroonย (NECC) in Maroua, the Central African Prelates disclosed that the attacks by Boko Haram fundamentalist sect haveย reportedlyย caused more than 320,000 people to flee the region.

At the Episcopal assembly which held from January 6-13 with the theme: โ€œA Synodal Church on Missionโ€, NECC expressed concern over the growing and persisting poverty among the population and appealed for greater justice, solidarity, hard work and continuous trust in God.

Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Josรฉ Avelino Bettencourt, during the closing Mass at the Cathedral of the Our Lady of the Assumption Maroua-Mokolo, reassured the Bishops of his continuous collaboration with them to foster a synodal church in Cameroon.

Expressing gratitude to the prelates for the spirit of love and solidarity existing among them, the Apostolic Nuncio together with all the Bishops of the Nation prayed for peace and unity in Cameroon and the world at large.

President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, His Grace, Most Rev. Andrew Nkea in his closing remark for the 47th annual assembly extended his words of consolation to the victims of the boko haram attack and encouraged them to remain firm and confident in God during these challenging times. He expressed his sentiments of gratitude to the Bishops for a successful meeting and to all Christians for their hospitality.
