The Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala has launched a passionate appeal to well-meaning individuals, organizations, and institutions to support the construction of a permanent structure for Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary at Wever-Ngibo, Benue State.
In an exclusive interview, the Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Rev Isaac Dugu, disclosed to CSN Media that the appeal is aimed at raising a total sum of five hundred million Naira (N500,000,000) to construct basic physical structures for the minor seminary. This amount, according to the Bishop, will cover the cost of building classrooms, dormitories, chapels, and other essential facilities.
The Local Ordinary of Katsina-Ala Diocese explained that the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary was established in 2021 by Bishop Peter Adoboh, his predecessor, who conceived the idea of a minor seminary while Bishop Avenya started to admit students. However, due to lack of infrastructure, the seminary has been hosted by the St. James Minor Seminary in Yandev-Gboko, Gboko Diocese.
Emphasizing on the need to invest in the education of young people, Bishop Dugu noted that the need for a permanent location for the minor seminary is pertinent, stating that the current arrangement is temporary and inadequate. “We are grateful to the Diocese of Gboko for hosting us, but we cannot continue to rely on their generosity indefinitely. We need a permanent home for our seminarians, where they can grow in their faith and prepare for their future roles as priestsโ, he explained.
โThe Diocese is utmostly grateful to have acquired a parcel of land donated by the Weber Gbaa family at Ngibo town and is now seeking support to develop the infrastructure needed for the minor seminaryโ he said.
Speaking further about the significance of the project, he noted that among his vision is integral formation and education, and the establishment of the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary is integral to his vision to enhance the quality of education and promote vocations to the priesthood and other noble vocations in the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala.
Bishop Dugu urged that all those who want to support this appeal, should contact him at [email protected]
