In a novel milestone, the Catholic Golfers Association of Nigeria, is to hold a golf tournament in commemoration of the priestly ordination and episcopal installation anniversaries of the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, Most Rev Alfred Adewale Martins.
The golf tournament with theme: “Evangelization through golf,” is slated for Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938. The tournament which is open to golfers across the country is also designed to bring not just Catholic players together, but all golfers.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr Isichei Osamgbi, he said, “this golf tournament is the first being organized for the Archbishop, and a debut by the Catholic Golfers Association of Nigeria, which hopes to unite top players as well as business leaders in all spheres of the Nigerian economy”.
The tournament which is open to all golfers, has many categories to be competed for, and it includes; Men, women, Priests, veterans’ men and women. There will also be Longest Drive, Nearest to Pin and Overall Gross.
Speaking further, Dr Osamgbi explained that, “the Catholic Golfers Association of Nigeria, is the first all Catholic golf group in the world, formed mainly for golfers who are Catholics, aimed at evangelization, using the game of golf as a tool and for faith deepening. Membership of the group is open to the Laity, Priests and the Religious.”
