Catholic media must campaign vigorously for change,” Amb. Keshi to SIGNIS members

Veteran diplomat, Ambassador Joe Keshi charged Catholic-owned media organizations to take a more proactive role in championing social transformation, insisting that the Church’s communication platforms must not only inform but also inspire reform in the society.

Delivering his keynote address at the 2025 SIGNIS National Congress holding at the Daughter of Divine Love Retreat Centre, (DRAAC) Lugbe, Abuja, recently.

The keynote speaker underscored that faith-based journalism carries a unique responsibility beyond reporting events. According to him, Catholic media must be “a prophetic voice” in the face of corruption, injustice, and social decay.

“Catholic media cannot afford to remain neutral observers,” he said. “You must campaign vigorously for change, highlight what is wrong, and insist on what is right. The nation needs your voice now more than ever.”

He noted that in an era of misinformation and political manipulation, Catholic communication channels can provide credible narratives rooted in truth, morality, and human dignity. Keshi urged Catholic media practitioners to go beyond targeting Catholic.

The Nigerian Diplomat commended the Catholic Church for its long-standing commitment to education, healthcare, and social justice, stressing that its media outlets should build on this legacy by becoming catalysts for positive change.
