The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) congratulated Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu on its 100 years anniversary, urging the institution to continue growing in service to the Church and nation.

The President of the CBCN and Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, made the remarks during the thanksgiving Mass and Diaconate Ordination of 40 deacons, held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, to commemorate the centennial celebration at the Seminary compound.

“I felicitate with the Bigard family and convey to you the warm greetings of the CBCN,” Archbishop Ugorji said, expressing his delight as an alumnus and former formator of the institution.

Archbishop Ugorji commended Bigard Memorial Seminary for providing sound and solid formation to past and present bishop members of the CBCN, including notable figures such as Dominic Cardinal Ekandem, Francis Cardinal Arinze, and Most Rev. Albert Obiefuna.

The CBCN President congratulated past and present proprietors, rectors, formators, staff members, and alumni for 100 years of hard work and dedication to service. “Like the mustard seed, Bigard Memorial Seminary had a humble beginning, but over the years has flourished,” he noted.

Archbishop Ugorji wished Bigard Memorial Seminary a joyful celebration and prayed for its continued growth. “On behalf of the CBCN and the Archdiocese of Owerri, where Bigard had once sojourn, I wish you a joyful celebration. May Bigard continue to grow,” he said.
