CBCN Orlu 2022: Day-4 Proceedings
CSN News
The second 2022 plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Orlu entered day-4 today, September 12, 2022.The day resumed with a Holy Mass at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart Pastoral/Retreat Centre, Orlu, presided over by the Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Kayode Odetoyinbo, whose homily primarily called on the faithful to imitate the qualities of the Centurion as presented in the Gospel reading.Bishop Odetoyinbo said that “despite the Centurion’s exalted and privileged position in the society, he manifested deep humility and his unworthiness to welcome Jesus under his roof,” even though “he was powerful but kind, influential but caring, wealthy but generous, respected but respectful, rich but pious and godly, a commander of many servants but selfless and humble.”
The Preacher further noted that although the Centurion was highly placed and wealthy, there came a day he needed help from Jesus for his sick servant and sought it through the people for whom he had built a temple. This affirms one of St. John Paul 11’s teachings that “no one is rich that he has nothing to receive and no one is so poor that he has nothing to give.”
The Prelate therefore encouraged the faithful “to never cease in praying for leaders so that they may have the heart of the Centurion to be submissive to the word of God, to be humble and always turn to God in times of difficulties and confusion, more importantly in this period of campaign and elections in our country Nigeria.”
The other activities of day-4 included the internal session where there was a Presidential address as well as reports from the various agencies of the CBCN. On day-5, among other things, the Bishops will receive the Secretary General’s report, Administrative Board Resolutions and reports from the provinces and from SECAM office.
