Celebrating Peace, equity justice: Kano Diocese @ 25

The Catholic Diocese of Kano marked a significant milestone on September 9, 2024, as it celebrated its Silver Jubilee, commemorating 25 years of promoting peace, equity, and justice. The week-long celebration, running until September 14, features various activities, including paper presentations, lectures, quizzes, sports competitions, panel discussions, and a retreat, culminating in the priestly ordination of two new priests, Rev. Iliya Dandabo and Rev. Linus Ogugua.

In a statement, the Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Michael Adefemi Adegbola, expressed gratitude to God for the Diocese’s journey from its humble beginnings to its current stage. He acknowledged the remarkable experiences, memories, and impact made on humanity in education, healthcare, social, and pastoral services.

“The Diocese’s growth and achievements are attributed to the dedication and sacrifices of past and present missionary heroes, under the leadership of Most Rev. John Niyiring Namaza, OSA,” the statement read. “His visionary leadership has earned recognition locally, nationally, and globally, establishing indigenous Christian communities, parishes, and deaneries across Kano and Jigawa States.”

The statement further emphasized that Bishop Namaza’s influence extends beyond the Catholic Church, inspiring many through his scholarship, leadership, and service. “The Diocese congratulates him and the dedicated clergy, religious, and laity for their steadfastness,” it added.

As the Diocese looks forward to the future with hope and optimism, it remains guided by divine wisdom, grateful for its mission presence, which has enriched the world and shaped the future of education and social growth.
