The National Director of Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Rev Fr. Dr. Michael Umoh has disclosed that the Holy Father’s focus on Artificial intelligence (AI), for the 2024 World Communications (WCD), will draw both the Church and the world’s attention to the evolving AI technology and prompt investigating and exploring its benefits and dangers so as to enhance a wiser engagement with the new phenomenon.
Commenting on the proposed theme: “Artificial intelligence and wisdom of the heart: for a fully human communication,” Fr. Umoh in an exclusive interview with CSN Media, emphasised that if the Church must remain relevant in the present day social sensibility, she must be sufficiently present on the digital space.
Furthermore, the Communications Director disclosed that the ComWEEK is an extensive celebration to commemorate the WCD by the Church in Nigeria, which entails a week-long media literacy programme focusing on the theme of the WCD by the Holy Father.
Fr. Umoh also stated that as part of the Communications Directorate’s drive to promote an aggressive media education for the Church in Nigeria, the Directorate has with the approval of the Nigerian Bishops, developed a media education syllabus for the Major Seminaries in Nigeria and operates a digital media channel, the Nigeria Catholic Network (NCN) App, for real-time credible information about happenings within the Church in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
