CONFERENCE OF MAJOR SUPERIORS URGE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO ENSURE JUSTICE FOR THE YOUTHS OF THE COUNTRY

An appeal has been made to the Federal Government to respond positively to the cry for justice by the youths of the country, who expressed their grievance through peaceful #EndSARS protests in different parts of the country. The call was made by Conference of Major Superiors of Nigeria; in their message of hope amidst the killings in the wake of #EndSARS and #EndPolice Brutality protests embarked by Nigerian youths.

In the statement titled: Never Loose Heart: Cause For Greater Commitment to Prayer, the Major Superiors expressed deep concern and solidarity with the youths and indeed Nigerians in general on the socio-economic challenges facing them and the unnecessary killing peaceful demonstrating youths by men in military uniforms. The statement was signed by Very Rev. Fr. Simeon Nwobi, CMF, President, Conference of Major Superiors of Nigeria (Men) and Mother Mary Claude Oguh, IHM, President, Nigeria Conference of Women Religious.

The Conference Major Superiors declared: โ€œWhile we appreciate the heroic cry for justice by our youth, we encourage all to keep faith and never give up hope. We encourage our youth to remain peaceful and shun violence.ย  We lend our voice to that of the Catholic Bishopsโ€™ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and Nigerians all over the world to call on our government to patiently listen to the legitimate cry of our youth and all Nigerians; to uphold the Fundamental Human Rights of the Citizens of this Country; to ensure that the killing of innocent people be stopped and justice granted to families of victims; to ensure security of life and property at all levels in our country Nigeria; to provide social amenities, quality education and employment for our youth; to make life affordable for all and put an end to corruption and brutality at allย  levels in our country.โ€
While admonishing government to engage the youths in meaningful dialogue to bring the impasse to an end, the major superiors commiserated with the families of the killed and injured youths; stressing: โ€œthe sporadic killing of our youth and indeed any Nigerian, diminishes us, our country and our world.โ€
