Couples charged to be responsible as CSN staff ties the knot
By Rachel Kogi, CSN
Saturday, October 22, 2022 was a joyous day for the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) community as one of the staff, Mr. Johnpaul Onyeneke and his heartthrob, Chinazom Egeonu were united in the bonds of holy matrimony at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Lokogoma, Abuja.
In a homily at the Mass, which was officiated by the Deputy Secretary General and Director of Pastoral Affairs, CSN, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Banjo, the homilist, Director of Mission and Dialogue Department, Rev. Fr. Joseph Nomhwange, SMA, called on couples to take responsibility in marriage as an important ingredient for marital bliss.
Describing marriage as a sacrament by which couples enter into a covenant that can never be dissolved, Fr. Nomhwange noted that it is a school which couples never graduate from. “You keep taking courses at different levels on communication, on respect, on generosity, on responsibility and on patience.”
The Director explained that the course on responsibility guides the couple to share responsibilities, bearing in mind that they are together in whatever situation they encounter as a couple.
He further stated that responsibility means being accountable, owning up to one’s mistake and having the ability to apologise, while making efforts to grow and improve on one self.
While encouraging the couple to be patient with each other and give themselves time to grow, he admonished their extended family members to avoid the temptation of dabbling into the affairs of the couple. He emphasised that “from today, Johnpaul and Chinazom have taken the course of a new beginning” indicating that things have changed and they have to adjust to the new reality.
In his remark, Fr. Banjo commended Johnpaul for his commitment to his work and attitude towards his superiors and colleagues at the CSN, observing that those qualities accounted for why the CSN community turned out in their numbers to celebrate with him.
The Mass was concelebrated by the National Director of Social Communications, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Nsikak Umoh, the Director of Pastoral Agents, Rev. Fr. Augustine Okochi, the CBCN Secretary for Youth Animation, Rev. Fr. Boniface Idoko and the immediate past Associate Parish Priest of St. Benedict’s, Rev. Fr. Boniface Neibo. Also present was the CBCN Secretary for Family and Human Life Unit, Rev. Sr. Rosanna Emenusiobi, the Internal Auditor of CSN, Dr. Godwin Ukel and many staff of CSN.
