CWO National President Dame Asibi Gonsum Becomes Member, Board Of World Union Of Catholic Women

The National President, Catholic Women Organization, Dame Mary Asibi Gonsum has been elected into the Board of World Union of Catholic Women (WUCWO), in the Vatican City, Rome, recently.

CSN Media in an interview with the newly elected member of the Board, Gonsum said the election kick-started from Nigeria, where all the women under the umbrella of the Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria comprising of the CWO, Lady Knights of St. Mulumba (LSM), Lady Knights of St. John, the Hausa-speaking part of the CWO known as “Zumunta Matan Catholika”, Confraternity of Christian Mothers, all affiliated to WUCWO participated in the election.

Speaking further, she said these women groups are obliged to nominate, thereafter selecting a flag-bearer for the Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria, the nomination is conducted according to the bye-laws of WUCWO and three nominations are expected from these women groups, she stated.

Speaking on the nomination process, Gonsum said one must be able to acquire a vote of 27 WUCWO affiliated women groups in Nigeria, African countries, Asia as well as Europe.

Gonsum expressed her appreciation to God and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary who made it possible for her to attain the position of WUCWO Board member representing Nigeria .
