‘Develop contemporary approaches to mission work,’ Fr. Samjumi charges PMS coordinators

Addressing diocesan and national coordinators of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), during the 2024 joint coordinators meeting at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Resource Centre in Abuja, the Secretary General of CSN, Rev. Fr. Zachariah Nyantiso Samjumi called on all the coordinators of the different mission societies to innovate contemporary approaches to the work of the mission. He urged them to go beyond the regular practices and adopt new ways of bringing to life the work of the mission.

The joint coordinators meeting with the theme: “Spiritual Cooperation”, commenced with an Opening Mass celebrated celebrated by the National Director of PMS, Rev. Fr. Solomon Zaku on Wednesday, January 24th at the St. Gabriel Chaplaincy in CSN. It witnessed the gathering of diocesan coordinators of the Propagation of Faith (POF), Holy Childhood Association (HCA) and the St. Peter the Apostle (SPA).

In his goodwill message at the opening ceremony, the National Director of Social Communications, CSN, Rev. Fr. Michael Umoh, reiterated that as mission workers and evangelisers, the coordinators should seek new ways to pass on the old message. He acknowledged and thanked the PMS Director for his collaboration with the Communications office over the years.

Reflecting on the theme for the forthcoming World Communications Day (WCD) and the Communications Week (ComWEEK); “Artificial Intelligence and Wisdom of the Heart: For a Fully Human Communication,” the Communications Director, disclosed that the theme is very relevant to them as PMS Coordinators and primary agents of evangelisation. He explained that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) is very instructive and speaks volume about their work as missionaries and called for synergy and collaboration from the PMS with the Communications office during the celebration of the 2024 ComWEEK and WCD in May, 2024.

The CBCN Secretary, Synod and Pilgrimages, Fr. Nicholas Djebah, sized the opportunity to introduce the PMS Directors to the different pilgrimage packages available for the year and encouraged them to seek ways of participating.

The National Director of PMS, Fr. Solomon Zaku in his welcome address to the coordinators, challenged them to continue with the work of the mission despite the harsh economic situation. He charged the new coordinators among them, to use the meeting as an eye opener on their responsibilities as mission coordinators.
