Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev Dr Ignatius Kaigama has warned schools under the Catholic mission not to imitate institutions that graduates students with tears as a result of personal interest.
Delivering his homily at Veritas University, Abuja during his Pastoral visit and administration of sacrament of confirmation to 28 candidates, the Shepherd of Abuja Archdiocese said Catholic institutions must strive to be unique and distinctive in order to make a difference.
He explained that he was convinced by the cream of lecturers and effort of the Vice Chancellor that the vision would be achieved and called on the university community to maintain high moral and academic standards as well as discipline.
Archbishop Kaigama also urged the people to hold on to their faith pointing out that faith transcends all barriers and obstacles which he described as a treasure to all Christians.
He stated that everything can fail you including chemistry, physics and economics, but faith would not.
He urged the newly confirmed to be ambassadors and live exemplary life as matured Christians. He further tasked them to study and know the Catholic doctrine, promote the faith and the identity.
The Archbishop described the candidates as now authentic Christians and followers of Christ.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Rev Fr (Prof) Hycinth Ichoku assured His Grace, the Archbishop that the management and staff of the university would continue to strive to fulfill the vision and mission of the founding fathers of the institution in order to form the students holistically.
He stated that the institution has also continued to expand on the existing academic programs by introducing new courses that can attract students to the university.
The Vice Chancellor also appealed for support for residential house for the university chaplain to eneble him attend to spiritual and counseling needs of the community.
The Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese, Most Rev Anselm Umoren was also present at the occasion.
