By CSN Media

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, expressed the Federal Government’s willingness to collaborate with the Catholic Church on education reforms. Speaking at the 4th National Catholic Education Summit held at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in Abuja, Prof. Mamman emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving quality education in the country.

“The Global Compact on Education in the Nigerian Context requires the reformation of educational models,” Prof. Mamman said. “This calls for rethinking how education should be delivered to focus on overall human development, nurturing creativity, idea, and emotional intelligence.”

The Minister who was represented by the Director, Department of Educational Planning, Research and Development at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Claris Ujam, commended the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria for organizing the summit, which she said aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He disclosed the Federal Ministry of Education’s strategic plan, “Education for Renewed Hope: Nigerian Education Sector Roadmap (2023-2027),” which outlines practical approaches across 13 thematic areas.

The minister also introduced the “DOTS” policy, focusing on: Data Repository, to tackle data challenges for better planning and decision-making. The Out-of-School Children Education, to reduce the number of out-of-school children and increase access and enrollment. Teacher Training and Continuous Professional Development, to ensure quality teachers for all levels. Skills Acquisition, Development, and Digitization, to promote skills development from basic to tertiary education levels.

While calling for collective action to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges, the Minister urged stakeholders to support educational initiatives, emphasizing that team efforts are crucial to achieving set goals.
