“Find Hope in Jesus’ Resurrection, Let Go of Pain and Fear,” – Bishop Sylvester Gopep

By Fidelia Angbalaga, CSN

The Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, Most Rev. Sylvester Gopep, has called on Christians to draw strength and hope from the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Speaking at the funeral Mass for Late Sgt. Umoru Amanda Na’antoe, LSM, held at St. Gabriel Catholic Chaplaincy, 551 Airforce Base, Jos, on September 20, 2024, Bishop Gopep emphasized that Jesus’ resurrection is more than a victory over death; it’s a profound source of hope for believers.

“The resurrection should liberate us from pain, fear, and despair,” Bishop Gopep declared. “Through this divine event, God turns sorrow into joy, defeat into victory, and despair into hope. As Christians, we must allow the resurrection to remind us that, no matter the trials, there’s always hope in Christ.”

Bishop Gopep acknowledged the socio-economic challenges and rising insecurity in Nigeria, which can lead to despair. However, he stressed that the resurrection offers a path to overcoming these feelings.

“Jesus conquered death to empower us to conquer life’s challenges,” he said. “The resurrection is our source of strength. Let it inspire you to live boldly, knowing you have an eternal future.”

He encouraged Christians to embody the hope of the resurrection by showing love, compassion, and resilience in adversity.
