Fr. Banjo commends Msgr. Ike, challenges CSN staff to brace up for work in the new year

Following two days of prayerful reflection, communion, learning and fruitful deliberations, the 2023 retreat for staff of Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) and other agencies of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), focusing on “Work, a divine vocation,” came to an end yesterday, January 6, 2023.

The second day of the programme featured a presentation by the Retreat Director, Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, on creating an ethical and value-driven workspace. He closed the session with a coinage to guide the staff in their attitude to work and life: think future; think sustainable; think ethical.

In a remark, the Deputy Secretary General and Director of Pastoral Affairs, CSN, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Banjo, representing the Secretary General, Very Rev. Fr. Zacharia Samjumi, thanked God for the success of the retreat and appreciated all the Priests and the Planning Committee led by Dr. Francis Alimigbe, for a well-coordinated programme. He applauded the staff for their positive disposition and  intelligent inputs, praying that the benefits of the retreat will remain with everyone throughout life.

Fr. Banjo went on to challenge all the staff to brace up for work in the new year and consciously study the documents of the Church, especially those introduced in the course of the retreat, so as to be adept in the Catholic teachings. Some of such documents include; Laborem Exercens,1981 by Pope John Paul II, Rerum Novarum, 1891 by Pope Leo XIII, Caritas in Veritate, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI, What must remain in the Church by Hans Kung and others particularly those with a focus on work.

He expressed deep gratitude to the Retreat Director, describing him as an ecclesiastic, a wise man, studious, down to earth, simple, very practical, eloquent, systematic, good hearted, full of appreciation, a good listener, forthright personality and a polyglot.

There were two sets of gift presentation to Msgr. Obiora from all the agencies. The first was done by the Head of Internal Audit, Dr. Godwin Ukel and the Chairman, Planning Committee for 2023 retreat, Dr. Francis Alimigbe. Fr. Banjo and the Executive Secretary of Caritas Nigeria, Very Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina presented the second gift.

The Eucharistic celebration ended with a Thanksgiving by all the staff and blessing for the working year 2023 by Msgr. Obiora.
