The new Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Rev. Fr. Michael Banjo, has outlined his vision for the organization, emphasizing the need for strategic planning, collaboration, and unity among agencies of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).
In his inaugural address to staff of CSN and agencies of CBCN, Fr. Banjo stressed that strategy is key to the success of any organization. “The principle of strategizing is non-negotiable if we truly want to live up to the purpose of our existence,” he said. “I therefore call on every department, unit, and agency to embrace a strategic mentality by adopting a forward-thinking approach where goals and priorities are defined based on current realities.”
Fr. Banjo also emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity among CBCN agencies. “We all belong to one large family of the CBCN,” he said. “The actual living in this family mentality is crucial to the actualization of the mission of the CBCN.” He pledged to build bridges of harmony and unity among agencies and to foster a culture of trust and mutual respect.
“To foster this spirit of collaboration, we will set up an inter-agency forum,” he disclosed. “This forum will bring together top executives of the CSN and the various agencies of the CBCN to discuss matters of mutual interest and shared cooperation.”
The CSN Secretary General further stressed the need for staff to embody love and compassion in their work. He described love as the essence of human existence, adding that true and mature love is an act of the will. He challenged the members of staff to express love towards one another and to the organization.
“Disregard for procedural norms of the organization, lateness to work, closing before closing time, unauthorized decisions to work from home, inappropriate dressing, and all forms of corrupt practices are expressions of the lack of love for the institution,” he said. “Loving the organization is reflected in responsible actions that reflect values.”
Fr. Banjo expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Rev. Fr. Zacharia Nyantiso Samjumi, and other immediate past Directors and officials. He appreciated the staff of CSN and CBCN agencies for their warm welcome. He pledged to work tirelessly to promote the mission of CSN and to foster collaboration and unity among CBCN agencies.
