The National Director of Social Communications at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Nsikak Umoh, paid a courtesy visit to St. Columbanus Secondary School, Ikwen, Obot Akara, in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
In a very exciting interactive session with the final year students, Fr. Umoh reminded them to always cherish the opportunity of attending a great institution and the character formation they are exposed to. “The nation is not in good state at the moment. You are part of the hope for a better future. So, cherish the sacrifice your parents are making to put you here and of course, the enormous sacrifice made by your formator. Keep away from every form of substance,” he advised. He did not fail to also caution the students to embrace and engage the social media responsibly, as it is a tool for growth, which if wrongly used can be quite damaging.
“We hope having been given so much, you will make your parents proud by working hard and avoiding all forms of distractions so you can come out in flying colors and good character. The institution looks forward to your return in the future to give back.”
Fr. Umoh was full of praise for the principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emem Umoren whom he described as “a man with the Midas touch who is very committed and exceptionally creative in discharge of his duty. He expressed joy and satisfaction at the serenity of the compound, level of discipline, responsibility and moral conduct evident in the school.
After the Communications and Media Expert had answered questions from the students, Miss Aniekeme Attai, on behalf of her classmates, presented a good vote of thanks. The students took a group photograph with their guest thereafter to capture and preserve the sweet memories of the day.
The ace co-ed secondary institution is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene and has won several awards locally and nationally.
