Harmony in Faith: Katsina Diocese Celebrates Sabon Rai Convention with Music, Worship, and Unity

The atmosphere at St. Johnbosco’s Catholic Church Malamawa was filled with joy from 23rd to 25th October, 2025, as the members of Sabon Rai Singers gathered for their diocesan convention. In a vibrant gathering that brought together young Christian singers from different parishes across the diocese, the Katsina Diocesan Catholic Sabon Rai Convention which took place, brought together young people who were united in their commitment to strengthening the Church’s spiritual life.

The convention, which focused on the role of music in Catholic worship, featured performances by local singers, bible quiz among other things that help the youth in building their faith. Sabon Rai, a traditional form of music has been a means of evangelisation in the diocese of Katsina and beyond, blending spiritual messages with cultural expression.

The event was graced by the bishop of the Diocese, Most Reverend Gerald Mamman Musa alongside two other Priests where Mass was celebrated by the Bishop, reinforcing the unity and shared purpose of the diocese.The presence of the Bishop at the convention reflects his deep love, care and commitment towards the young people. At the heart of the convention was the homily delivered by Bishop who addressed the congregation with a message of encouragement and responsibility. In his homily, the Bishop emphasized the importance of ensuring that the songs performed in worship reflect the core teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Bishop said, “Music is a power tool in our worship. It can inspire, teach, and uplift. But it must also be rooted in the truths of our faith. Our songs should not only be beautiful but also faithful to the Gospel and the core teachings of our Catholic faith.”

The Bishop urged the singers present to be mindful of the messages they convey through their songs. He encouraged them to seek guidance from the Church and to collaborate with the priests to ensure that their songs align with Catholic teachings.

As the congregation left, many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to come together in faith and to contribute to the spiritual life of the Church.
